Chika
Biography
Chika was born and raised in Fukuoka, Japan. She majored in music in college.
After graduating, she worked for an interior design company.
Chika moved to the U.S. in 1994. She worked for Diamond-Falk Architects.
After she met Ms. Kiyoko Yamamoto, a Yuzen dye artist.
Chika was taken by the dye art and began studying under Ms. Yamamoto.
I use many different mediums, such as home-made natural dye, pencil, and sewing. I believe that working in a single medium is restrictive to my artistic process. Each idea manifests in its own individual style.
I enjoy growing indigo in my garden, and creating natural dye. My inspiration time is enhanced by growing plants in nature.
